Jubilee Celebrations
On the 27th May 2026 the Ursuline English Region came together to celebrate 175 years since the Ursulines first came to England. It was made extra special with the additional celebrations for the diamond jubilees of four of our sisters. Sr Beatrice, Sr Catherine, Sr Jackie, Sr Jenny and Sr Anne Spilberg (a Brentwood Sister).
The English communities were joined by the Brentwood Ursuline Sisters, two sisters from Ireland and Sr Samuela, the Regional Prioress.
The day began with a mass of thanksgiving, celebrated by Fr John Jesus Moloney from St Anthony’s Parish, Forest Gate. We then made our way to the famous tulip tree which sits in the garden of St Angela’s School; a tree that was there when the Ursulines took over the house in 1862. It was a very special moment, to be able to recreate the photo of the Ursuline Pioneers under the same tree over 150 years ago.
The celebrations continued throughout the day; the Ursuline staff had decorated the garden and house with bunting and balloons.
We enjoyed a BBQ lunch, Pimm’s and of course, cake!
We were blessed that the sun shone for us and we were able to spend the day in our beautiful garden surrounded by our Ursuline family. The day was a great success and a wonderful way to mark such an important jubilee. We gave thanks for the Ursuline Pioneers and for each other.
